Jelly Roll Quilt

When my Bestie and I get together we always make something and this time we decided to make a jelly roll quilt. It was a bit ambitious given the time frame but we were determined.

Firstly we picked a jelly roll pattern "Sparkling Gemstones" then we chose our fabrics. We went with "Spring Magic" and a beautiful white tone on tone for the background.

We sewed, cut and ironed, taking turns as we only had one machine, one cutting mat, and one iron.

V deviated from the pattern a little and I said she was taking a short cut, in the end her blocks looked beautiful too. Where I've got 4 fabrics in a block, she only had two.

I sewed all the strips together and then when I sewed the first two rows together I discovered the blocks needed to be trimmed to 6" squares . (The pattern hadn't mentioned this...gggrrr). So I didn't get it finished before I left South Australia.

Since I've been home I've unpicked all the rows, trimmed all the blocks and reassembled it and Here's the completed top....

No idea when I'll get it quilted, so if Lizzie's Page is reading this, this is the quilt I want stippled, feel like practicing on it?

Happy New Year! My first comment in 2009. Feels strange in a way. Your quilt looks great. I admire your patience by taking it all apart and piece it again.

Jo your quilt looks great. Is it out of the "Jelly Roll Quilts" book? I thought I might have had a go at making that one at some stage. It looks really effective.

Hey Jo! Your quilt looks FANTASTIC!! WOW! How speedy were you two to get so much done in between the coffees, lunches, shopping, coffees ...!! Good on you! I'm just starting one of two quilts I'm hoping to get finished by the end of January - talk about setting tough goals for myself so early in the year!! At least one is quilt-as-you-go, so not quite the same challenge as yours to finish. And they say that whatever you're doing on New Years Day is what you'll do most of for the rest of the year - Hope so, cos I'm playing in the sewing room! Oh, and washing ... hmmm ... could do without THAT!! Tee! Hee! Hee! Happy New Year! Bear Hugs! KRIS

Gorgeous quilt, you must be happy with the end result, it helps to read the pattern first although I'm sure none of us ever do. :-)
