Teenagers

I don't normally post about my family and what's happening but I had to share this with you, especially Mum's of young teens.
My DS, whose nearly 13 has been wearing long trousers through winter and hadn't told me about a sore on his leg, well after catching a glimpse I asked him about it and he didn't know how he got it, it looked like a graze and we thought nothing more of it.
Fast forward a week later and the sore had become a festering mess and not only that he had the same on his other leg too, he hadn't told me it was changing. A trip to our local doctor and a swab test soon revealled it was Golden Staph, big problem is it's gone rampant and is now affecting other areas and it's now moved to his face, arms and torso. His face has copped it pretty badly. He's now on his second round of antibiotics and creams and I'm hoping he can stop it from spreading and getting any worse. His only dissappointment is that he's on school holidays and has been quarantined to the house. School goes back on Monday and it's unlikely he'll be going for at least another week.
Here's a pic of his face, I won't show you his legs, they're not very pleasant!

So to all those Mum's of young teens, make sure you get your kids to tell you about any sores on their bodies and keep an eye on them, they can turn quickly into something much worse!

That looks quite uncomfortable for your son! I hope he recovers quickly, it sounds quite serious.

Hi Jo

Poor kid, that looks so uncomfortable. I think boys in particular just don't know what to do about 'stuff'. (Sorry, I'm not more articulate today!)

I hope he gets better soon... underneath that sore rash is a very handsome young man!

Hugs! Vikki xx

Oh my gosh Jo, they just think they are invicible don't they, too cool, too tough. If you didn't want to hug 'em you'd want to slap 'em. Hope he's feeling better very soon.

Jo, your poor son. It does look nasty doesn't it. Staph spreads so easily and at 13 its an important time for the "looks" to look good isn't it?? Thank goodness you got onto it.

How fortunate for your son that you happened to catch a glimpse of his leg as it could have been worse. I hope the rash clears soon. I'm sure it's not very comfortable for him.

Hi Jo, hope it clears for him soon. I had it on my leg a couple of years ago, and it seemed to spread overnight. He might not have realised what it was, BTW it doesn't scar, poor thing, hope it clears soon.

Hi Jo, my heart goes out to you and your son. I hope he gets over this quickly and realises he isn't invincible, and that we mums need to know what is going on with them. Life is too important. Best wishes to you all xx

Aaaak! Oh Jo poor you. Yes yes, very sad about your boy but it will heal and not scar and he will remember it as a good war story to tell over the years (honestly, he will end up having 'wrestled bears during his quarantine') but you? You get a teenage boy who is getting better by the day quarantined in your house DURING the holidays and have to keep you both sane without murder or bodily injurytaking place. Am sending wine and chocolate ;-)

Oh Jo the poor kid! My sister had a staph infection that did the same thing it took 3 or 4 rounds of antibiotics to clear it up. Be sure to be diligent about scrubbing everything so no one else gets it!

HUGS sweetie, I will be sure to pray for him.

Kids, they know just how to scare us to death don't they! My daughter did this to me as well, when I saw the red line going up her arm from staph, I freaked out and took a trip to the ER. I sure hope he gets better soon, you are in my prayers. -Cori

Oh Jo, I do hope that it clears up soon for your boy. I'm lucky, my nearly-15yr old son shows me 'everything', so we can get onto it straight away.....however, he doesn't 'tell' me everything (if you know what I mean!!!).
