A sad little story

I just wanted to write this down:
I was out the front of my workplace this afternoon when a young male driver sped down the street and hit a ginger moggy, he stopped about 50 metres down the road whilst the poor moggy writhed around. I called out to my office mate to grab some towels and I raced over to see if the moggy needed first aid. It was obvious it had sustained major injuries and was taking it's last breaths. I put my hand on her body and patted her gently as she drifted off. It was so sad witnessing the end of her life.
The young driver's female passenger had gotten out of the car and raced to the cat too while he just stood at the car and didn't seem to care less.
I'm not a cat lover and believe they should be kept in cat runs but I accept everyone has different opinions. I just don't like to see an animal suffer, it's heartbreaking. This cat had a lovely little collar and the Council Animal Control Officer told me it had been desexed however it was not microchipped so the owner could not be traced and notified. She was taken away to a vet where they keep her for a week (in a freezer) and if the owner thinks to go to the vet within the next week they might just find out her fate.
So the moral to this story is please microchip your pets, especially if they like to roam, and make sure you keep the details upto date.  And the second moral of the story is to beware there's idiots on our roads!

That is a sad story. It's very upsetting to see an animal suffer, but at least you showed it some kindness. As for the driver, there isn't anything polite to say about him.

Very sad. I have a cat and every time she leaves the house I fear for something to happen. She is chipped and has a collar with her address on it. Around here, some people dislike cats so much, they go out of there way to hurt them. I really tried to keep her indoors, but she won't have it. Luckily she is the ultimate scared cat..... Everything freaks her out. People, dogs, birds, cars, rain, wind.... So she is never out long.

Poor little thing. I'm so glad my girl lives indoors; it's a necessity as she's deaf. I've lost a few cats to hit and runs...

Such a sad tale but in her final moments someone care and she left this world with a caring soul watching over her. What you did was a lovely thing Jo and I hope it doesn't cause you any grief.
lots of hugs

Oh how sad, am glad that you cared to go and follow up for the little kitty's sake, i just hate to see animals suffer and it is terrible to know people just drive away.
